Laine and I went to Art and Soul in downtown Oakland yesterday. It;s your usual street fair, music, food and other vendors, great people watching. We go if we think about it in time. It's easy to get to with BART and this year they added free parking, maybe as an incentive because the weather has been so crappy this summer.
We were wandering around and ended up at the Women Gig stage, because it's easy to find a seat there; it's in the sun; and there was some singer-songwritery sounding act that Laine wanted to hear. Sort of boring girls with guitars. But the next act, Sistahs in the Pit was something else altogether.
Imagine it's sometime in the late 60s, early 70s. Hendrix isn't dead yet, or Led Zepplin repetitious. Sistahs is a old-school power trio and they played like, well, like rock gods.
They were loud. They were good. And they'd just finished giving a class at Bay Area Rock Camp, teaching girls to rock out too.
It's not a perfect world, but this makes me feel good.
